When Liam mentioned "The Karnes Development" I took a little walk down memory lane. The "Karnes development" was one of the top 'Good Idea Fairy' failures of all time on the island. Here It is 15 years later and not one structure has been built on any of its 37 parcels. I remembe...

The Island is perfect for tiny houses and tiny house communities. For example on a 10 acre parcel you could partition off four 2 acre lots for four private tiny houses. The center 2 acres could be used for a community building. It could have showers, septic, well, , trash/recycling, community kitche...

Will a questionnaire be sent out to ALL property owners of Beaver Island to see what the majority of them support? The vast majority of property owners are not homesteaded or able to vote, but they pay the brunt of the oppressive tax burden for the Island. It seems fair and decent to at least get th...

Very little on the Island is actually done for the best interests of the tax payers, tourists, or off islanders who invest to become property owners. Most decisions are guided by personal profit, cronyism, nepotism and taking care of the Island power clique and that of their friends and family membe...

Speaking of crime on the Island, has anyone heard any update about the young woman who was flown off Island after consuming GHB the date rape drug? Did they find out who slupped it to her?

"I do recommend and assign Thursday, the 26th day of November next, to be devoted by the people of these States to the service of that great and glorious Being who is the beneficent author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be; that we may then all unite in rendering unto Him our s...

There is a lot of historical record on the forum. Even saw one from Steve West asking what the Beacon was. And Patrick Mcginnity asking if anyone had any work on the Island cause he wanted to move here year round.

Lots of posts from friends long gone now. Lots of historical records.

I still remember when the new medical center was being built and what a fiasco it was. No place for the EMTs. No weather resitant place to transfer patients to and from ambulances. A horribly energy inefficient design. Any of the contractors on the Island could have designed a better more cost effec...

Patrick the best thing the Island can do to improve the economy is to lower taxes, utilities costs and clean up the massive and rampant corruption, nepotism, cronyism and bloated public workforce. Also need to purge the boards and get new people in Island leadership roles. The old timers are incompe...

Patrick, look at floor heating systems that go under tile. They run about 200 bucks, have a thermostat and are safe to run on 110v They can be cut to size. https://www.homedepot.com/p/SunTouch-Floor-Warming-48-in-x-48-in-Shower-Heating-Mat-C12120010ST-S4848/205176456?cm_mmc=Shopping%7cTHD%7cG%7c0%7c...

Patrick the obstacles I see with a microbrewery business is the cost of bringing materials (hops, barley, bottling, packaging supplies etc) to and from the island during mid December to mid April. The airplane freight would be cost prohibitive. Also the cost of shipping the finished product off Isla...

Lach, The answer to your question is found by looking at the current and past composition of school board members and presidents. A simple chart of the influential hierarchy will show direct family relationships between board members and school employees. Also board members working for spouses of sc...

Kirk, Headlee schmedlee. It is a simple problem. We have way more staff than can be justified at the school. You have 40 students and about 20 full time employees. You make a plan to restructure the school down to 10 to 12 people (Janitor to Principle) just like Washington or Mackinac Island has. Yo...

Kirk I did not share this information to the public about the schools bloated budget to in anyway demean teachers. But I do think that the Island should consider alternative cheaper ways to educate the students there. Keeping a staff of almost 20 full time employees for 40 students is ridiculous. An...
