Genteel, sophisticated, cultured, aristocratic, distingue', elegant, fashionable, formal, graceful, mannerly, polished, urbane, stylish and cultivated . These are the traits that I generally witness attempted to be portrayed by people who run for elected office. Do any of those discriptions bring R...

I would hope the island's new guide would enforce a no take limit on all spieces for his clients. However, if one is promoting spear fishing that may create a challenge. Our once abundent small mouth fishery is barley managing to regain a foothold Buy all your eating fish and support our one local i...

Keelhauling is not that effective in the Great Lakes because of the lack of barnicles on the hull bottom. It was the barnicles that did the most damage to the person being punished, as the scrapes and sores delveloped into what would usually cause a slow and painful death weeks later.... no anti bio...

Ride your scooter... all legal like...feel free to roll over any trolls you see, they are a pain to even listen too, let alone give them any credence, except their sound when squishing under the wheels of your tires. When you get to the end of the road where you can legally ride and want to go on......

I live, therefore, I rant ..... People die everyday. From poor health habits, yet I still have been known to show up at the local pubs. People die everyday from auto accidents, yet I still drive my car at freeway speeds when I commute to work. People die (somewhere in the world) almost everyday in a...

As I have told you before Rich, You island fathers should get proactive and form a plan in which you approach one of the big car makers in Michigan and "offer up" Beaver Island as a controlled experiment to outfit all the residents with electric or hybrid transportation. In return you woul...

Motorcycles are great, I agree, however, anywhere a ORV can go so can an enduro bike, so it comes back to the responsibility of the rider. I keep my dualsport sidecar bike on the island. I do not ride where am not supposed to. If I had an ORV, I would be the same rider. And I will contend that "...

Yes we do not have to wear helmets with electric cars, but we should. We should wear helmets when in any vechicle, or walking on the street for that matter, as cyclists and skateboarders could run you down and do not forget, law abiding cyclists and boarders are wearing their helmets too ! Perhaps w...

Here on the West Coast, investors are developing wind wave turbines. They look like small bouys above the water and have an array below the surface. . They are being placed near power plants so they can easily hook into the grid. Studies are being made on their environmental impact. I am hoping they...

Richie and friends, After following this thread for a few days now, I am not sure what it is we are all complaining about??. Note: being self employed, my marginal tax rate is 42% , so I assume that I am paying my fair share. As the late Texan collumist Molly Ivins use to say," You've got to da...
