Another wise man saying...

Reading this thread reminds me of a saying from another wise man, Mayo Smith who managed the 1968 Tigers and tried to warn Folks from arguing with the always negative Denny McLain: "Boys", he would say, "Never get into a pissing match with a skunk." Pitchers and Catchers will rep...

I quite sure that Ms. Hannah from Alaska is feeling all warm and fuzzy about her decision to move to Beaver Island after reading this thread... at least she will get a glimpse of what February will bring!

Congrats to Ms. McNamara

Just wanted to wish my former teacher, Kitty McNamara, all the best on her Retirement. I think that in the history of the Island, there will be few, if any, who have had more of an impact on some many Beaver Islanders. From the perspective of Teacher, Sister-in-Law and Friend, I'm grateful to have K...

I wish I still lived on the Island because I'd nominate the members of the Clan Na Gael for Citizens of the Year . For over 20 years, they have made BI a destination place for The Great Day. I can only imagine the economy impact this group has had on Beaver Island . Up the Clan! I'll be with you in ...

Wow John, did someone pee in your cornflakes this morning or what? It seems unlike you to be so decidedly negative on this forum. Perhaps your feelings reflect a lack of understanding to why carp are compared to bonefish. Both are â??flatsâ?￾ fish that are considered â??junkâ?￾ by most fishers and not typically caught to eat. Both are, however, highly sought after fly fishing species because they are have to be stalked and precisely cast to in order to have a chance of a hook up. The difficulty in this sort of fishing is to be able to present a fly to a fish that is almost blind and entice them to eat it within a very limited time period (seconds). Itâ??s the challenge that makes this type of fishing so unique. They are â??onlyâ?￾ carp but I challenge you to put your 50 years of fishing to the test by booking a trip with Indigo and see how â??glamorizingâ?￾ it is to catch a big hog in the beautiful waters around my native home. Perhaps with understanding you may be less judgmental and more â??realâ?￾! Perhaps you will also recognize, as most of the Islanders do, the positive economic impact that this fishery has and will continue to have on the Island. Maybe that, in and of itself, will help you rethink the c-a-r-p! Iâ??ve got trips booked on July 2nd and 3rd, care to join me?

Happy Birthday to one of the Island "Greats"

Russell Green II invites all his Island Family & Friends to wish his Uncle and Co-Godfather, Benny, "Big Jim", McDonough a Happy 50th Birthday tomorrow, April 26. Here's to a man who would literally give you the shirt off his back! R2 says he is very proud to call Uncle Benny his own a...

Richie, Speaking of great songs, what was the name of that tune about Columbus we used to play at your polebarn party's? Something about "that cabin boy, that dirty little nipper"!! Oh, the good old days! I could use a get together like that right about now!

Why??

Hayseed, here is a better question. Why is it that no matter what the discussion on this forum, some people feel the need to go negative and complain about everything? I believe if you watch the video you would see that instead of "exploiting" the fish population, the guides at Indigo work...

It's exciting how this fishery is taking off. Instead of Alaska this summer, Steve and I have booked a trip with Indigo for July. Can't wait.
