Re: Fruit Explorer looking for employment with lodging

I see a couple of problems with your idea: 1.). Apples get ripe late in the season. The farmers market has a lot of traffic during mid summer when there are a lot of visitors to the island. However, about the time that apples get ripe the traffic falls off because many kids are going back to school ...

Trail Volunteers Needed

During the next 2 weeks we are conducting a survey of the trails on the south part of Beaver Island to determine maintenance priorities. If you would like to volunteer to help by walking a trail or a se...

Re: Beaver Island crime stats

I don't think crime statistics, i.e., crime rates, are very useful for very small towns like Beaver Island. The year King Strang was killed our rate was very high, the next year perhaps zero. Having said that, I did find a statistical rating published by ADT (the home security company). It shows Bea...

Re: ...ticks...

I would trust the Doc re medicine to deter ticks. We use one called "NextGard" which was prescribed by a vet not on Beaver Island. I have hiked all the trails in Peaine township with my dog. He spends at least 10 hrs. a week in the woods. This summer I removed 2 ticks --from me. None from ...

Anyone doing auto body work on BI?

If there is someone capable and interested in doing minor body work I can wait until they have free time this coming winter as I will be off island.

Re: School info

Greater use of online learning does not have to mean homeschooling. Students can still come to the school, can still have guidance and instruction from teachers, including science labs etc. If the school used a mix of online learning with otherapproaches online learning might be used to create great...

Re: Boardwalk trail in the woods

The trail that fits this description is the 7 Bridges trail. It starts from East Side Dr. where the Fire Dept. station is located, across from the campground. There is a large tower at the fire station. This trail is on public land so you are free to use it. It can be a bit confusing when you get pa...

My very positive experience with BI Health Center

I purchased a home on Beaver Island in the spring of 2017. I did not use the services of the Health Center until Sept. of this year when I fell and broke my wrist. The nurse saw me pretty quickly and took an x-ray. She said it was hard to read in my case and called in Dr. John Martin, who like me is...
