Re: FOR A CONSOLIDATED BEAVER ISLAND TOWNSHIP
This thread, and other threads on this topic, is perhaps not the best place to get the feel of life on Beaver Island. It's a little like if you were invited to someone's family reunion and a huge fight breaks out. It might give one pause if they were thinking about marrying into that family. Persona...

Last week Wed. (Nov. 6th) we saw the first two parts of a four part series by Andy Stanley called "The Bible for Grownups". For those of you who saw them, there is good news. Next Wednesday (Nov. 20th) at 6:00 PM I will be showing the last two parts of the series. This is a fascinating ser...

Do you have a Bible in your home? Most people do, but why? What do you think it is, paper and ink? The Living Word of God? Or maybe something in between? Maybe just a birth/marriage/death record. Maybe a book to be discretely displayed to impress certain visitors. Maybe the "Owner's Manual for ...

Some Thoughts on Consolidation
I am posting this as a new topic rather than on one of the several threads for two reasons: 1. I do not want this post to be seen as a reply to any other specific post either in agreement or rebuttal. 2. Some of the existing threads are quite lengthy, and I don't want to get lost in the crowd. Peopl...

On July 18, at 10:00 AM there will be a Celebration of Life service at the Beaver Island Christian Church for Shirley. It will be a mostly informal gathering of friends to remember a member of the group who has gone on ahead. Shirley and I had planed this sometime ago, so, Mike Deur will tell you so...

As many of you already know, Shirley went home to be with the Lord Wed. Mar. 15th. Since one of her favorite activities was feeding people, if you would like to do a good deed in memory of her, the Food Pantry would be a fitting choice. Send a little something, (or a big something), to: Beaver Islan...

Hello
Beaver Island. What a place. My wife and I have lived here year round now for only 14 years, so we are "newcomers", but maybe that gives us the authority to have an experienced, yet unbiased opinion of this place. We fell in love with this place before ever setting foot on it as we sailed ...

Just an observation
I find the forum interesting, irritating, informative, entertaining, funny, sad, depressing, enthusing, and absolutely essential to the community. Sometimes I agree wholeheartedly with a post, and sometimes I donâ??t. But even if I find a post to be blind, stupid, pigheaded, and wrong, I would not disparage the writing of it because freedom of expression is one of the most important rights intrinsic to a free society.
After 14 years on the island, this is my first post. I intended to abstain for another 14 years, but the time seems appropriate for an â??outsiderâ? to make an observation. I have spent 75.8 years on the planet and during that time I have traveled some difficult roads and I have learned a couple of things. I know what hate is, and I know what it is not.
I have observed that usually those who accuse others of having hate, possess more themselves, than those who they accuse. I have also observed that many times criticism is perceived in statements or questions where it, in fact, does not exist.
There is a Book which is the â??Ownerâ??s Manual for the Human Beingâ? Like all ownerâ??s manuals, it starts with this: It contains the identity of the Maker, the proper way to operate the product, how to maintain it, some warnings about the consequences of improper use, and many other things.
Paraphrasing one of itâ??s many statements, it says this: â??Criticize a wise man and he will love you.â? ( He realizes and appreciates the opportunity for self-improvement.) â??But donâ??t bother to criticize a fool because he will hate you.â?
Therefore, we each put on ourselves the label of either â??wise manâ? or â??foolâ? based on how we respond to criticism, real, or perceived. Each of us has an opportunity to improve or degrade this community. Not by what we say, but by how we respond to what is said.
It has been said that no one can make a fool of you if you do not possess suitable material for the project.
You may find grammatical errors in this post, but if you understand what has been said, they are irrelevant.
