Re: Thank you for your support through the years.

Just saw this! Thanks Andy, for introducing Arlo to a happy grooming experience as a puppy when we lived on the island. To this day he *loves* going to the groomer, even as he's now an old guy at age 12. Your kindness and gentle manner made all the difference.

Gosh, sorry to have questioned the expenditure of public funds without a thorough investigation of the business partners! I mistakenly thought the topic of this thread was "should public money be used to expand services on the island?"

perhaps a different spin on this question ...

With islanders having been burned once before by a wireless provider who made promises he couldn't keep, I think the townships need to go beyond studying the technical issues of whether or not a company's plan might work to studying the quality of service and customer satisfaction that company might...

Great Lakes Energy to abandon local internet dialup service

For all you folks who use the Great Lakes dialup (448-2132), they plan to "decommission" our local modem pool and there will be no on-island phone number for dialup service following 12/8/09. As part of this, they'll also be closing your associated email account on 12/8/10. For more info, ...

Thanks to all who came out for the EV show and took test drives. The crowds were thinner than last year, but Jeff's right: this year there was more serious "shop talk" about EV technology by the attendees. One car was sold, and the dealers were pleased with several good sales leads. And ye...

... or was it big government? Or did consumers really just reject the technology as unworkable.

See the movie and decide for yourself! :D

Just like to point out that there are no *rights* of passage, only *rites* of passage which may or may not be right.

Thanks much, Deputy Williams!!! Your efforts are much appreciated.

We have extremely poor cellphone coverage on the island. If you need 911 in a hurry, you have to be lucky and find someone at home in a nearby house or more likely get in your car and drive to a spot where you know you'll get a cell signal. This leads to significant delays in emergency response times.

Wow ... we would be interested in regular flights to Petoskey/Harbor Springs. In fact, that would be preferable for us over flights to Charlevoix. Better shopping, more service professionals, easier access to I-75 for downstate runs, no summer bridge traffic problems ... all around better than Charl...

1. The passanger increase was based upon past history and is only an estimation and is also based on over 10 years out. That would be less than 1 passenger a day over that period. Given our economic times you may be correct that it may not happen in the near future but those figures are revisited e...

Re: airport

According to my news guy in Charlevoix, there are no plans for a new airport terminal building. There are plans to expand the existing building. Take a look at the specs for the "expansion." ... it will essentially be a new terminal building, regardless of whether or not they incorporate ...
