not just on Beaver Island
Problems with water are not relegated to Beaver Island. I was shooting photos for the Central Lake 4th of July parade last week with the newspaper's very expensive digital camera, and several people took deliberate shots at me and that equipment with their glorified water guns, which held large amou...

duck hunters?
Hoping to find someone on the island who duck hunts. My son, who fell in love with the island last spring, and I are hoping to get over to Beaver in early October for a couple of days, and we'd like to try duck hunting. We'll be bringing all the gear, everything except a boat. Any stories, comments,...

awesome post!!
How sad there were no replies until now... My son lives two blocks from Ft. McHenry, when visiting there we walk over to Federal Hill and experience the thrill of knowing our flag still waves and we are still free every day. I will see it again in a bit less than 3 weeks. Never forget the honor of t...

wolves on Beaver
TD-good point about the howling, but, c'mon, how many people ever get to the interior of the island? Ever been turkey hunting down there? A gobble can be heard a long way when the bird is in a big field, but in the deep woods and hills, such as the interior of Beaver Island, you'll only hear a gobbl...

Beaver Island wolves
TD-I'm an experienced outdoorsman, and an outdoor writer who has written many a wolf report article as well as looked into hundreds of ghostly sightings, who also happens to know Jeff Powers, who as an experienced DVM knows the difference between a dog, a "coy-dog", and a wolf. Believe me,...

Fishing Beaver Island
If I were fishing Beaver Island in the summer, (wish I were), I'd bring a boat or rent one and try every public lake on the island. Largemouth bass and BIG bluegills in shallow Font, bluegills, pike and bass on Fox, walleye, lots of them thanks to the work of the Beaver Island Wildlife Club and thei...

clear-cutting
Clear cutting MORE of the island is needed. The new browse will benefit a number of species including deer, ruffed grouse, woodcock, and all types of tropical songbirds. At one time, Mother Nature did the clear cutting by creating fire...then the logging industry did it, creating some of the best ru...
